how to answer the
question "why should i hire you?"
Okay, since you are
looking for a “formula” on how to answer the "why should I
hire you?" interview
question, here you go:
Well…why should the interviewer hire you?
Don’t fall into the
trap of believing you have to come up with a canned response.
Interviewers can smell a fake answer right away. Speak from your
heart. You’ll get further in the interview process if you do.
But just because you shouldn’t use a canned response doesn’t
mean you can’t prepare.
Before the interview, conduct research to figure out the
interviewer’s pain. Many times you participate in a phone
interview. That’s an opportunity to ask the reason the position is
open. Once you know the answer you can brainstorm ideas on how to
answer the question Why Should I hire you?
If you are not able to determine the pain prior to the interview,
early in the interview ask the hiring manager the reason the
position is open.
Here’s when you have to multi-task during the
interview because you have to formulate a response to why should I
hire you while your answering other interview questions.
Most likely the response will fall into one of the following. The
previous employee was…
…fired for poor performance.
…promoted or left the company for a better opportunity and the
hiring manager is sad to see the employee move on.
Let’s say you found out the hiring manager fired the ex-employee
because he was always late with projects. Focus your response on
your track record of completing tasks on time and within budget.
So there you have it…a simple guide to the interview questions why
should I hire you?
