what
information your technology resume include?
Technology
information in your IT cover letter can cover various aspects of your background
and qualifications. One thing I learned running an
IT
resume service
is that the resume and cover letter work as a team. So it is
difficult to narrow down the exact information your IT cover letter should
include until the resume is complete.
Whatever information is missing from the resume, the cover letter should pick
up the slack. This ensures that both documents compliment each other.
should an IT cover letter be project-oriented?
Though resume length should not be a concern. Meaning that the resume needs to
be as long as it needs to be in order to provide full breadth of your
experience, it should not exceed three pages.
However, many IT professionals
have worked on numerous projects and it’s impossible to include everything
on the resume. This is where the cover letter comes in. For projects that
didn’t make the “resume cut,“ I can include them in the letter.
That said, mentioning all of your projects in the resume and cover letter may
not be necessary. We don’t want to put the hiring manager in a “project
overload.” In those cases, the letter can focus on soft
skills.
Regardless of which approach is best, both the hard (projects) and soft
(leadership)
skills will make it on the resume and cover letter. It’s just that your specific situation
dictates where the emphasis should be. Technology information in your cover
letter can cover various aspects of your background and qualifications.
